All About Me
Ask each other questions about thoughts and feelings: What do you like about yourself? What are your biggest strengths? Talk about opportunities for growth and make a plan to reach tangible goals. How do you want to feel about your own unique beauty? What can I do to help make you feel confident?
Beautiful Inside & Out
Identify women in both your lives whom you admire for qualities that are beautiful both inside and out. Discuss the reasons behind your choices. Choose some new additions based on the output of your conversation.
Decorate a notebook or sketchpad together and keep a log of inspiring quotations, compliments and positive comments other people have made about the girl in your life. Tuck in a few favorite photos or mementos that remind her of moments when she felt confident and beautiful or just had a great time. Whenever she has a moment of uncertainty, bring out the book to get her self-esteem back on track.
Girls in the Lead
Let the girl in your life teach you a new skill. Try doing a project together like jewelry making or pottery, or ask her to show you how to do something you normally wouldn’t, like play video games or learn to text.
School is a hotbed of mixed self-esteem messages. During the summer, talk about friendships, teachers, social pressures and anything else that she might want to chat about. Being open and receptive to what she has to say—good or bad, small or big—can help build mutual trust and strengthen you relationship. It will also allow you to ease any fears or lend insight before the year begins.

Beauty All Around You
Using a camera, video recorder or both, take an expedition and capture all of the beautiful things you’re thankful for in people, places, nature, anything! Then, create a slideshow or movie for a feel-good film you can pop in whenever she needs a little boost.
Share five things you like about one another and five things you each like about yourself. Focus on physicality, personality and character traits.
New Moves & Grooves
Get physical! Choose a new activity, or pick one you both love. Anything from hula hooping to rock climbing, to dancing, bowling, roller-skating, hiking, swimming and more can be healthy for your body, mind and relationship.
Self-Esteem Support Network
Choose special days throughout the year and dedicate them to the people she loves. Use an existing calendar or create a personalized photo calendar online to pencil-in bonding appointments, and set aside time for her to spend quality time with each important person. Seeing the calendar every day will give her something to look forward to and act as a reminder about all of the wonderful people she has in her life for support.
